Pipe & Tube Weight Calculator

Calculate kg per metre and total weight for round, square and rectangular steel and stainless pipes.

Estimate the weight of MS, GI, CR and SS pipes and tubes in kg per metre, per piece and in total. Works for round pipes, square tubes and rectangular tubes.

Formulas used

  • Round: kg/m = (OD − t) × t × π × ρ / 1000
  • Square / rectangular: kg/m = t × (2 × (A + B) − 4t) × ρ / 1000
  • ρ = density in g/cm³ (7.85 carbon steel, 7.93 SS 304, 7.98 SS 316)

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

For round pipe: kg per metre = (OD − t) × t × 0.02466 for carbon steel, with OD and wall thickness t in mm. For square and rectangular tubes: kg per metre = 0.00785 × t × (2 × (A + B) − 4 × t). Multiply by length for total weight.

This calculator uses about 7.85 g/cm³ for carbon steel (MS, GI, CR), 7.93 for SS 304 and 7.98 for SS 316. Actual values vary slightly by grade and supplier.

No. It is a theoretical estimate. Billing is based on actual weighment or the agreed per-piece weight, and mill tolerances apply.
