What is a honed tube?
A honed tube is a precision steel tube with an internally honed bore. It forms the barrel of hydraulic cylinders, pneumatic cylinders, rams and jacks used in construction equipment, material handling, presses and agricultural machines.
Why honing matters
- Close bore tolerance keeps the piston seal working correctly.
- Fine inside finish reduces seal wear and friction.
- Straightness and concentricity keep the cylinder running smoothly under load.
How to select a honed tube
- Bore (ID) in mm based on piston size and force required
- Wall thickness based on working pressure and safety factor
- Tolerance and finish such as H8 and Ra value
- Material grade and delivery condition
- Length, cut-to-size or standard
Standard vs pre-honed
Standard honed tubes are supplied with the bore finished to the agreed tolerance. Pre-honed supply lets cylinder makers use the tube with minimum further bore work.
